Watch: Australia’s Scott Boland continued his incredible streak in Test cricket with a double-wicket maiden that rattled South Africa’s top order during the opening Test between the two teams at Brisbane.
Boland, whose Test career began with a dream 2021/22 Ashes campaign, continued to build on his incredible start with two early wickets against South Africa in the opening hour of the Brisbane Test. Put in to bat first, South Africa had already lost Dean Elgar when Boland was brought in as first change.
Off the fourth ball of his second over, Boland induced an outside edge off opener Sarel Erwee’s bat, the ball flying to gully where Cam Green took a good, low catch. The wicket reduced the visitors to 27-3. Two balls later, it became 27-4.
Targetting the stumps, Boland nipped one into Khaya Zondo, who was rapped high on the back pad. The umpire immediately gave him out lbw, only for Zondo to review it. Ball-tracker showed that the ball would have clipped the top of the stumps, resulting in Umpire’s Call, which upheld the on-field umpire’s decision.
The wicket took Boland’s Test bowling average under 10 – at the time of writing, his figures read 5-2-9-2, with his average reading 9.82.
