England will play a three-match T20I series against Australia beginning on October 9. Here are the full squads and team lists for the AUS vs ENG 2022 T20I series.
After a 4-3 series win in Pakistan, England hope to build momentum ahead of the T20 World Cup. They were ravaged by injuries on the Pakistan tour, with regular skipper Jos Buttler not featuring at all. In his stead, Moeen Ali captained the side and that could continue if Buttler does not recover sufficiently.
Elsewhere, Ben Stokes returns to the squad having last played a T20I in March 2021. Liam Livingstone could also play some part after making a recovery from an ankle injury he sustained during the home summer. Alex Hales, Dawid Malan, Harry Brook and Phil Salt are the other batters in what is a power-packed squad. On the bowling front, England will hope that Chris Woakes and Mark Wood can get some match action after the pair both missed the entirety of England’s home summer through injury. Chris Jordan and Reece Topley are also in the mix, as are David Willey and Sam Curran. The spin department, meanwhile, will be spearheaded by Adil Rashid.
Australia, considering the schedule that lies ahead, have rested their first-choice bowling attack for the first T20I. The first choice quartet of Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc and Adam Zampa will be available for the second and third T20Is in Canberra, though. The side will be led by Aaron Finch, with David Warner expected to partner him at the top of the order. Marcus Stoinis, who missed the recently concluded West Indies series, is expected to be fit for the series opener. Cameron Green, who impressed against India but is not in the T20 World Cup squad, is also part of Australia’s group for this series.
The first game will be played at Perth on October 9, before the series culminates in Canberra. With both teams looking to figure out their best elevens ahead of the T20 World Cup, this series could be crucial.
