Watch: Uncontrollable Labuschagne in splits, throws arms in air after DRS reveals vicious turn for Zampa

by Wisden Staff 2 minute read

Watch: Marnus Labuschagne could not control his laughter after ball tracking suggested Adam Zampa’s ball to Liam Dawson would have turned the proverbial mile from the leg stump towards the off during the third ODI against England.

Zampa sent down a leg-break, pitched on the leg stump, to Dawson, who tried to sweep and missed. The ball hit his pads, the Australian fielders went up in appeal, only to be turned down by the Paul Reiffel. Australia opted for the DRS, and were left amused after ball-tracking revealed the ball spinning a mile.

The big screen indicated that the ball would have missed the off-stumps, which amused even Reiffel. The commentators were left in disbelief at the trajectory as well saying, “Adam Zampa has turned into Shane Warne overnight… it’s predicted to turn viciously. Astonished that it’s turned that far and missing off stump. No way. That’s hitting middle. I can’t believe it.”

As the visuals were shown on the big screen, Zampa’s teammates were left astonished, with the likes of Steve Smith, Marcus Stoinis, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood chuckling at the seeming glitch and the turn Zampa would have generated.

Of them, Labuschagne’s reaction stood out. He was first left bewildered, looking at his other teammates and raising his hands in the air before he moved away, laughing. He later covered his eyes, seemingly wiping tears of mirth, sharing a laugh with Zampa as well as everyone saw the funny side.
