Watch: Sanju Samson took a top catch to dismiss Steve Smith in the first Australia-India T20I, not long after his captain Virat Kohli had put down a sitter.
Kohli’s drop came in the seventh over, with D’Arcy Short sending the ball high. The visiting skipper slightly misjudged the trajectory, having to lean back in an attempt to get under the ball, which burst through his fingers and knocked off his hat.
Samson, by contrast, was coolness personified as Smith aimed a mow at concussion sub Yuzvendra Chahal. The ball flew flat and fast to deep midwicket, where the wicketkeeper-turned-outfielder dove and grabbed the ball inches from the turf.
It would prove a key moment. Smith came into the game in prime form, having scored 62-ball hundreds in the first two of three ODIs between the sides. His dismissal saw Australia slide from 74-1 in pursuit of 162, eventually finishing 11 runs short of their total.
