Rohit Sharma looked set for a match-defining score on the second day of the ongoing Brisbane Test, before skying one off Nathan Lyon when on 44.

After losing his opening partner Shubman Gill in the seventh over of the innings, Rohit, joined by Cheteshwar Pujara displayed both assured defence and fluent strokeplay to keep India’s scoreboard ticking. The glorious straight drives were followed by a strong back foot punch off Nathan Lyon, with India looking strong at 60-1.

However, much to his own and India fans’ disappointment, the right-hander lofted one towards the wide long-on region a ball later, and Mitchell Starc – having covered some decent ground – completed the catch.

The experts just couldn’t hide their disappointment.

The fans too, had their say on social media, some even questioning his approach and place in the Test side.
