Tim Paine’s decision to not review a caught-behind appeal involving Virat Kohli during the first Australia v India Test in Adelaide split opinion on Twitter.
Kohli was batting on 16 when a Nathan Lyon delivery took a sharp turn off the pitch, appearing to take along a faint touch of the batsman’s gloves when he tried to flick it towards fine leg. Paine caught the ball cleanly but there were mixed reactions from the fielders around Kohli. The umpire turned the appeal down, leaving Paine with a tough decision to make: whether to take a review or not.
Even though Matthew Wade, who was stationed at short leg, tried to persuade the captain to go for a review, Paine, with all three reviews remaining, decided against it. However, soon enough, replays proved that it was the wrong call.
While the hotspot did show a faint edge, in Paine’s defence, the Snickometer caught nothing as the ball went past Kohli’s gloves. Many felt that Paine was in fact right to not risk a review, when he wasn’t completely sure of the dismissal.

Others, however, were gutted (or relieved) after the non-review from Paine, depending on where their loyalties lay.
Easy to say when we have all the angles and benefit of stump pic. It looks and sounds largely different for them.

It is, but no one was interested, so I don’t blame Paine for not going for the review

3 reviews for 80 overs should have taken that one

Tim Paine is the worst DRS reviewer in cricket. He’s like the bizarro Shane Watson. Where Watson reviewed everything, Paine doesn’t review the right ones. #AusVInd

Some even wanted Kohli to walk after gloving the delivery.
Kohli out. ICC Spirit of Cricket winner should be walking when he glove it. 👎
