by Wisden Staff 3 minute read

R Sai Kishore penned an emotional message on social media after a memorable India debut in the Asian Games 2023 quarter-final against Nepal on October 3.

During his maiden outing, left-arm spinner R Sai Kishore claimed 1-25 in four overs and held three catches. In the process, he became the second cricketer, after Pakistan’s Hussain Talat, to grab a wicket and three catches on men’s T20I debut.

After the match, he paid tribute to those who had helped him during his formative years. In a social media post, he recalled his struggles involving his blood, sweat and tears.

“MIRACLES DO COME TRUE. Not here because of talent or ability. Here because of 4ams, hard work and a dream which didn’t make me sleep for some years now. An ordinary boy in Madipakkam dreaming to play for the INDIAN CRICKET TEAM and actually making it, MIRACLES DO COME TURE. Grateful to universe, Family, and friends. Celebrating every moment of life. Love to all,” he wrote.

On the back of his impressive domestic numbers, he received a maiden India call-up for the Hangzhou Asiad. The second-string Indian squad is led by Ruturaj Gaikwad and coached by former India player VVS Laxman. From 49 T20Is, he has 57 wickets with an economy of 5.48. His first-class and List A numbers read 113 and 73, respectively.

Earlier, during the pre-match anthems, Sai Kishore couldn’t hold back his tears of joy when the Indian anthem started playing. The raw emotions depicted how much he valued and craved the opportunity. Now that Sai Kishore is an Indian international, he will look to build on the start.

India made 202-4 and bowled out Nepal for 179 to qualify for the semi-finals.
