Watch: Virat Kohli was at his entertaining best on the field during Nepal’s innings, dancing to the tunes of a Nepalese song playing on the stadium PA system during India’s second match of the 2023 Asia Cup today (September 4) in Pallekele.

India won the toss and fielded first against Nepal after having batted first against Pakistan. Mohammed Shami replaced Jasprit Bumrah in the XI for India as the latter went home for the birth of his child.

Shami and Mohammed Siraj started well with the new ball, creating several chances. However, India’s fielding was not up to the mark. They dropped three catches in the first five overs of the game and proceeded to make a few more errors on the field as the game progressed.

Kohli was one of the three fielders who dropped catches early on. However, he didn’t let that affect his morale on the field. Even as the Nepal top order gave them a good start, Kohli was seen dancing around to the Nepalese song Kutu Ma Kutu playing on the stadium PA system after the 14th over.

Aasif Sheikh and Kushal Bhurtel had provided Nepal with an opening partnership of 65. The former scored 58 off 97 balls while the latter was more adventurous, scoring 38 off just 25 balls. Lower-order contributions from Gulshan Jha, Dipendra Singh Airee, and Sompal Kami took Nepal to a fighting total of 230.

A long delay caused by rain three overs into India’s run-chase meant the match was reduced to a 23-over encounter. India’s revised target was 145 which they chased down with all ten wickets and 17 balls remaining. With this victory, India booked their spot in the Super Fours alongside Pakistan and Bangladesh, whereas Nepal stood eliminated.
