Watch: Mohammed Siraj bowled an unplayable outswinger that squared up Dasun Shanaka and cleaned up his off-stump to reach a world-record-equalling five-for in the Asia Cup final today (September 17) against Sri Lanka.

Siraj tore open the Sri Lanka batting order with a brilliant display of swing and seam bowling in the Asia Cup final in Colombo today (September 17). After Jasprit Bumrah started things off for India with a wicket off the third ball of the match, Siraj jumped into the action in the fourth over of the innings.

The first ball of the fourth over saw Pathum Nissanka get dismissed. The in-form Sadeera Samarawickrama was trapped in front of the third ball, before Charith Asalanka spooned a drive to cover off the fourth to make it three in the over for Siraj.

As if that wasn’t enough, he then got Dhananjaya de Silva caught behind off the last ball of the over to cap off an over that almost sealed the fate of the game within the first half-hour.

Siraj wasn’t done yet, though. The very next over, he cleaned up Shanaka with a world-class outswinger that squared the batter up completely and smashed into his stumps.

That was just the 16th ball that Siraj bowled in the match, making it the joint-quickest five-for in the history of ODI cricket along with Chaminda Vaas’ 6-25 against Bangladesh in the 2003 ODI World Cup.

Siraj ended up taking one more wicket and finished with figures of 6-21 off seven overs as Sri Lanka were all out for 50, the lowest total against India in ODI history.
