Latest ICC ODI rankings: Shubman Gill jumps to career-best No.2, David Warner enters top three

by Wisden Staff 2 minute read

The ICC ODI player rankings have seen a massive shift of positions, with the most prominent of them being the rise of Shubman Gill to No.2 in the batters’ rankings.

Following a stellar run in the ongoing Asia Cup, several Indian players have made jumps in the ICC ODI player rankings. Gill, who has scored 154 runs from four games including two half-centuries, has risen to a career-best second spot with just Pakistan captain Babar Azam ahead of him.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have also done well in the Asia Cup so far and it has reflected in their movement on the rankings table. Both have jumped two spots each and are ninth and eighth on the table respectively.

Among bowlers, Kuldeep Yadav has been unplayable in the Asia Cup, picking up nine wickets from three games at an average of 11.33. He is now seventh on the ICC ODI bowlers’ rankings list, having moved up by five places. Hardik Pandya, meanwhile, has jumped four places on the ODI all-rounders rankings to be sixth on the list currently.

Pakistan openers Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq have not had the best of tournaments so far and have moved down in the batters’ rankings. Zaman has dropped three spots to tenth and Imam has dropped one spot to fifth on the list. Pakistan bowlers, on the other hand, have moved up.

Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah both suffered injuries during Pakistan’s Super Fours clash against India, but have made massive leaps in the bowlers’ rankings. Rauf has jumped eight places to be 21st, while Naseem has jumped 11 places to be joint 51st.

Elsewhere, Australia and South Africa players have moved around in the rankings as well. David Warner has moved up one place to fourth while Travis Head has moved up six places to 20th in the ODI batters’ rankings. Temba Bavuma, meanwhile, has made a huge leap of 21 places to reach career-high rating points and a rank of 11th.

Josh Hazlewood has consolidated his position at the top of the ODI bowlers’ rankings following his three wickets in the first match of the series while Keshav Maharaj and Tabrazi Shamsi have moved up the ladder as well. Maharaj is now 25th on the list (up by 10 places) and Shamsi is 29th (up by 15 places).
