Watch: Virat Kohli made his highest T20I score in 18 months against Hong Kong in the Asia Cup, hitting a six three times in his innings.

The former India captain hit three sixes in his 44-ball innings, helping his side up towards 200 after a cautious start. While Suryakumar Yadav was the undoubted star, smashing 68 off 26 balls, Kohli’s potential return to form is perhaps more significant, given his struggles recently.

Famously, the No.3 is without an international century since the end of 2019, and this marked his highest score in the format since hitting an unbeaten 80 against England in March 2021.

Kohli made a steady start, reaching 26 at a run a ball before a slog-swept six off Mohammad Ghazanfar signalled a change of intent. From that point on, he hit 33 off his last 18 balls, with two further sixes. First he came down the track to loft Aizaz Khan over deep midwicket, and then he slog-swept again, depositing Ehsan Khan for a 91-metre maximum.

His stand with Suryakumar amounted to 98 runs in seven overs, lifting India from 94-2 to 192-2 by the end of their innings.

Having beaten Pakistan in their tournament opener, victory over Hong Kong would guarantee India’s passage to the Super Fours.
