Sri Lanka bowler Dilshan Madushanka endured a horror start to his opening over in the Asia Cup final, with six attempts needed to bowl his first legal delivery.

The left-arm quick has had an impressive Asia Cup campaign, but found himself having conceded nine runs before managing a legal delivery. He started with a marginal no-ball, a decision disputed by some, before struggling with both his length and his lines to deliver four consecutive wide balls.

The first was an attempted bouncer which flew over Mohammad Rizwan’s head, with the next three fired down the leg-side. To compound his misery, the third of the four wides beat Kusal Mendis behind the stumps and flew away to the boundary.

Madushanka recovered well, conceding just three runs from the six legal deliveries in the over, the first of which was a free hit, and leaking only a solitary boundary in his second over. In the passage of play, the 21-year-old conceded nine runs before bowling a legal delivery, and seven runs in his 12 legal balls.

Pakistan are chasing 171 to win the Asia Cup.
