Broad has dominated Warner in the recent battle between the two, dismissing him 12 times in the 11 matches the pair have both played in since the start of the 2019 Ashes. The latest of those came at Headingley, shortly after Ben Stokes’ extraordinary assault came to an end to keep England within distance of Australia. Broad also dismissed Warner in the first innings.
Leading by 37 at the time, Warner had made just one. Broad angled a length ball back into him, with an outside-edge flying comfortably to Zak Crawley at second slip. Warner walked off with a resigned smile on his face.
In the all-time list, only two batter-bowler combinations have seen more dismissals. Michael Atherton was dismissed 19 times by Glenn McGrath, while Australia’s Arthur Morris was seen off 18 times by Alec Bedser. Broad-Warner is now level with two pairs of which Atherton is the batter, with West Indies’ Curtly Ambrose and Courtney Walsh the two bowlers.
