Watch: Mark Wood sparked mirth among the Ashes press pack and drew an amused reaction from England captain Ben Stokes, interrupting the pre-Oval Test press conference by playing pop song ‘Barbie Girl’ over the loudspeakers.

If there were any doubt at all over whether Mark Wood favoured Oppenheimer or Barbie, it was dispelled with his antics, putting a halt to proceedings just as Stokes’ press conference had been about to get underway.

Just as England’s media man Danny Reuben was reminding those assembled of the running order for the Q&A, the Aqua hit could be heard booming out from the sound system. There were giggles from the media and a wry smile from Stokes. Stokes was then asked to guess which player was above him.

“Woody?” came the immediate, and correct, answer, with the England speedster smiling gleefully from above.

His hijinks didn’t stop there, playing ‘The Imperial March’ from Star Wars later during the presser, and this time drawing a laugh from Stokes.

The final Ashes Test begins at the Kia Oval on July 27.
