Few battles between batter and bowler gain as much hype as Broad v Warner in England. But, after the Broad got his man out eight times in the 2019 series, the resumption of that saga was one of the most highly anticipated parts of the current contest.
Having got the chance to bowl at Warner at the end of Day One after England declared, Warner survived a tricky 20-minute session against his nemesis. He went into the following morning on eight not out. But, grey clouds condensed over Edgbaston overnight and early in the morning, and as the lacquer came off the ball batting looked increasingly difficult for the Australia openers.
Warner added one to his overnight score from the first six overs of the day before Broad struck with the first ball of his fourth over of the morning. Charging in from the Pavillion End, Broad sent down a short, wide tempter which Warner fell for. He chased the ball looking to flay it to the boundary, but with no footwork he dragged a thick inside edge back onto his stumps.
As the Edgbaston crowd erupted in celebration and Broad celebrated getting his man once more, Warner threw his head back in disbelief at a soft dismissal.
