England have selected two uncapped players in their squad for the Women’s Ashes Test, which will take place next week (June 22-26), with Alice Capsey also included in a Test match squad for the first time.

Western Storm duo Danielle Gibson and Lauren Filer (both 22) are the newest faces in the squad. They have been rewarded for stellar form in the Charlotte Edwards Cup, which came to a conclusion yesterday (June 12). Gibson, an all-rounder, scored two half centuries in the competition and took eight wickets – including a four-for in her most recent match against Central Sparks.

Filer took five wickets in as many matches in the competition, with an average of 19.20. She dismissed Dane van Niekerk in her most recent match against Sunrisers. Filer signed her first professional contract with Western Storm at the end of 2022.

Both players have previously represented England’s Academy, and Gibson was England’s travelling reserve for the T20 World Cup earlier this year in South Africa.

Capsey has also earned her first call-up to a Test squad, after cementing her place in England’s white-ball sides over the last 12 months. She makes up one of four uncapped at Test level options England have to choose from in their 15-person squad. Danni Wyatt has also been included in the squad, with 245 limited overs caps for England she has yet to make her Test debut.

Alice Davidson-Richards, Issy Wong, Lauren Bell and Emma Lamb have been retained in the squad after making their Test debuts against South Africa last year. Davidson-Richards scored a century in England’s innings while Wong and Bell took two wickets apiece.

England head coach Jon Lewis said of the squad: “We are looking forward to what promises to be an exciting Ashes series. We are fortunate that our talent pool is growing fast, this has enabled us to pick a nicely balanced squad.

“Dani (Gibson) is one of the form cricketers in the country, she is improving both with bat and ball and if selected in the team, offers us a dynamic cricketer who can change the momentum of the game.

“Lauren is a genuine wicket-taking threat with good pace and swing. Again, if selected in the playing 11, she offers us a point of difference in our bowling attack that could impact a Test match at any point in the game.”

England will play Australia A in a three day warm-up game which will start on June 15, while an England A squad led by Lauren Winfield-Hill and including both Wyatt and Davidson-Richards will play Australia in a three-day match which will run at the same time.
