Australia had found the going easy through the morning, as England had failed break through their ranks in the first two sessions. It came down to England’s best seamer on the day, Robinson, to deliver the goods for them. First, he got rid off David Warner with a clever slower ball. Warner was on 94, and missed out on an Ashes hundred.
Warner’s mistimed stroke was followed by another dismissal. This time, Robinson got the ball to jag in towards the newcomer, Cameron Green. The young all-rounder believed the ball would sail over his stumps, and left the ball. The beautiful delivery moved in, but kept low, and continued in its trajectory to disturb Green’s bails.
Isa Guha said, “Bowled him! First ball, Ollie Robinson, on a hat-trick!”
While, these two wickets got England right into the Australia lower-order, Travis Head ensured that Australia fought back and got a lead of close to 200 runs.
