Australia are the current title holders of the Ashes, having drawn the 2019 edition in England. They won the preceding edition in 2017/18.

The series will be part of the ongoing 2021-23 World Test Championship.

Ahead of the Ashes, Australia skipper Tim Paine stepped down from captaincyfollowing an off-field scandal. The first group of England players arrived in Australia in early November and will spend a fortnight in quarantine before their warm-up matches ahead of the first Test.

Both teams have announced their squads for the initial games – while England consists of an extended unit, Australia have named a 17-member team for the first two Tests.

Ashes 2021/22: Venues

The five Tests will be played across five cities in Australia – Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth. Usually, Sydney hosts the fifth Test, but Perth will be the venue for the final game this time. In October, Cricket Australia confirmed that the fixtures for the final two Tests won’t be changed despite border restrictions in Australia due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Start times

Matches will begin at different times for almost all the games, including the day/night Test which will see a post-afternoon start.
