Watch: During the third ODI between Afghanistan and Pakistan, Shaheen Shah Afridi walked away to the pavilion without casting a glance at an injured Rahmanullah Gurbaz.

Pakistan, already 2-0 up in the three-match ODI series, opted to bat in the ‘dead rubber’ match at Hambantota, and lost four quick wickets After Babar Azam (60) and Mohammad Rizwan (67) took them to 162-2.

Salman Agha (38 in 31 balls) and Mohammad Nawaz (30 in 25) then lifted them from the doldrums of 189-6 in 41 overs, and Shaheen Shah Afridi walked out at 266-8 with one ball left in the innings.

Shaheen played Fareed Ahmed to deep mid-wicket, and he and Salman ran two. They even contemplated a third run as the ball soared over wicketkeeper Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s head before deciding against it.

Gurbaz, meanwhile, had leapt in the air, and had probably raised his right leg too much. He pulled a muscle and sat on the ground, clearly in some pain. A nonchalant Shaheen marched off past Gurbaz towards the pavilion, and Pakistan finished on 268-8.

It is worth a mention that Fazalhaq Farooqi had caused a stir during the second ODI two days ago, running out Shadab Khan at the non-striker’s end when the latter had backed up too much.

Watch Shaheen Shah Afridi walk past Rahmanullah Gurbaz:

It is worth a mention that Shaheen had hit Gurbaz on the boot with a yorker during a 2022 T20 World Cup warm-up match to claim a leg-before, and immediately checked on Gurbaz, who had looked in visible pain.

Videos of Shaheen ignoring Gurbaz quickly became viral, and predictably spawned some memes on social media, mostly of the “ignore problems like” template.

Gurbaz recovered sufficiently to open batting, but he was the first to go, leg-before to Faheem for five. At the time of writing, Afghanistan were 133-7 in 36.3 overs.
