Watch: Rahmanullah Gurbaz ran out Saud Shakeel with a swift piece of fielding, running quickly to his right before taking aim and throwing down the stumps with a direct hit during the third ODI against Pakistan.
Afghanistan reduced Pakistan to 52-2 in 12.5 overs but a 110-run stand between Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan brought them back into the game. But Babar’s dismissal started a collapse, with Pakistan losing four wickets in 27 runs. The highlight was an excellent fielding effort by Gurbaz, who sent back Shakeel with a direct hit in the 39th over of the innings.
Shakeel, playing his first ODI since January 2022, walked out at No.5 and started with a four. He hit another boundary two balls later but was unable to carry on after an attempted tight run led to disaster. The batter nudged Mohammad Nabi’s third ball towards the leg side and ran for a single, but was stopped immediately by non-striker Mohammad Rizwan, who realised he might not be able to it back in time.
However, Shakeel had already wandered way down the pitch and was unable to ground his bat in time as Gurbaz swiftly ran to the ball, picked it up, turned around and immediately took aim with one stump in focus. He was successful, and Shakeel’s ODI comeback was halted after just six balls.

Pakistan eventually ended up scoring 268-8 in their 50 overs as they look for a series whitewash.
