Ireland’s trip to the UAE to play Afghanistan begins on February 28, 2024. Here is the AFG vs IRE 2024 schedule, including full fixtures list and match timings.

Afghanistan will host Ireland for a Test match, three ODIs, and three T20Is in their adopted home of the UAE. The Test match will be played at the Tolerance Oval in Abu Dhabi, while the Sharjah Cricket Stadium will host all six limited-overs matches.

Inducted into ICC Full Membership in 2017, Afghanistan and Ireland are the newest Test-playing nations. Afghanistan won the only time they faced off before, at Dehradun in 2019, by seven wickets. With 2-20 and 5-82, Rashid Khan predictably played key role in the triumph.

It was Afghanistan’s first win in Test cricket, in only their second attempt. They have subsequently beat Bangladesh and Zimbabwe, and have an impressive 3-5 record after eight games. They also finished sixth at the 2023 World Cup.

Ireland, on the other hand, have lost all seven of their Test matches, and failed to qualify for both the 2019 and 2023 editions of the World Cup, though they do have a head-to-head record of 13-16 against Afghanistan in the format. In T20Is, however, Afghanistan hold a decisive 16-6 lead.

Ireland have named their squads for all three formats. Andy Balbirnie will lead them in the Test match, and Paul Stirling in both limited-overs formats. They have not played international cricket since the Zimbabwe tour of December 2023.

Afghanistan are yet to name their squad. They are coming off a tour of Sri Lanka, where they lost the only Test match, the ODIs 0-3, and T20Is 1-2.
