Each of the nine teams have contested in the 2023-25 World Test Championship (WTC) points table and here’s how the teams are ranked after the end of 2023.

The last two Tests of the year on Boxing Day saw India play against South Africa at Centurion and Pakistan take on Australia at the MCG. In both games, the visitors posed little challenge for the hosts, and the wins took South Africa and Australia to the top of the table.

This was South Africa’s first Test match in the third WTC cycle, and they are currently top of the table, followed by Australia, Bangladesh and New Zealand, all of whom have a percentage of 50. Australia have played seven Tests in the ongoing WTC cycle, the most among all teams, winning four and losing two.

The winners of the 2021-23 World Test Championship, Australia have been docked 10 points thus far courtesy of slow over rate, reducing the percentage points won per contested to 50.

India slipped to the sixth spot in the WTC table after their defeat to South Africa at Centurion by an innings. The Rohit Sharma-led side were also penalised two points due to a slow over-rate, taking them below Pakistan in the WTC table.

India also played against the West Indies in a two-match Test series in June and July, winning one match and drawing the other.

Pakistan, on the other hand, defeated Sri Lanka 2-0 in their first assignment in the ongoing World Test Championship but have lost the series against Australia under new skipper Shan Masood.

Bangladesh, who played two home Tests against New Zealand, created history after defeating the Black Caps in the first match. They were in control in the second game as well before Glenn Phillips took New Zealand home. It is the only series New Zealand have also played in the 2023-25 WTC.
