by Wisden Staff 3 minute read

Here is the updated World Test Championship (WTC) after the second Test match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, at Chattogram.

Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh by 192 runs at Zohur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram to clean sweep the series 2-0 as well as jump to joint third place on the WTC points table.

Sri Lanka made 531 – the highest Test score without an individual hundred – after Dhananjaya de Silva won the toss and opted to bat. Kamindu Mendis continued with his stupendous form to equal Javed Miandad’s world record of highest career aggregate after four Test innings.

Asitha Fernando (4-34) then led the rout as Bangladesh folded for 178. Sri Lanka batted again, and declared on 157-7 as Hasan Mahmud got 4-65. Chasing 511, Bangladesh stretched the match into the fifth morning before being bowled out for 318 as Lahiru Kumara finished with 4-50.

In the WTC, a team gets 12 points for a win, six for a tie, four for a draw, and nothing for a defeat. Teams are sorted by points won per points contested (PCT).

Sri Lanka were pointless in the 2023-25 World Test Championship Cycle when they arrived in Bangladesh. With 24 points from two Test matches, they now have 50 points. This gave them a PCT (points won per points contested) of 50, helping them draw level with third-placed New Zealand.

Bangladesh’s PCT, meanwhile, dropped from 33.33 to 25. They are now at par with seventh-placed South Africa, ahead of only England (17.5 from 10 Test matches).

India head the points table with a PCT of 68.51 from nine Test matches. With 62.5 from 12 games, Australia are at second place, well ahead of New Zealand and Sri Lanka.
