At Galle in 2015, India bowled out Sri Lanka for 183, secured a 192-run first-innings lead, and reduced the hosts to 5-3, then 95-5. Then the Sri Lankan wicketkeeper smashed an unbeaten 169-ball 162 with 19 fours and a six to lift his team to 362.
Even then, India needed to chase only 176, but now the Sri Lankan left-arm spinner rose to the challenge to claim 7-48. He got support from an off-spinner (3-47) who had made his ODI debut in the World Cup quarter-final earlier that year.
From 30-1, India were bowled out for 112, but came back strongly to win the series 2-1. Two years later, they beat Sri Lanka 3-0 in Sri Lanka.
