The Proteas triumphed in an absolute thumping, with 84 runs the eventual margin. South Africa’s openers put on a blistering stand of 170 in 13.1 overs, while England’s top order was rather more sedate, making a combined 91 off 75 between them. Anderson himself emerged with credit, taking 1-28 in four overs, but was still never seen again in the format.
