The last time Ireland defeated their neighbours in an ODI was in August 2020, during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic in Southampton. It was a high-scoring game, which saw a target of 329 chased down with a ball to spare.
England had already won the first two matches of this series, making this result little more than a consolation win for Ireland. A total of three centuries were scored in this game, including one by each captain, making it only the fifth occasion (at the time) on which both skippers had made a ton in a men's ODI.

Ireland's final score was exactly the same as it was in their first ODI victory over England, back in the 2011 World Cup. Two players from that win were also part of this victory, while none of England's players in 2011 were around for this match.
