Sehwag made his Test debut on India’s 2001 tour of South Africa, two years after he played his first ODI as a 20-year-old against Pakistan. In his very first Test innings, he scored 105 at Bloemfontein, becoming an out-and-out match-winner in the format for his subsequent 103 Tests.
He retired in 2013 after scoring 8,586 Tests runs – between the debut in Bloemfontein and the final Test in Hyderabad, 38 players made their India debut (including a fellow debutant in the 2001 Test).
