Defending champions Australia are playing their second straight WTC final, while the Proteas have qualified for the summit clash for the first time. They had finished sixth in the 2019-2021 cycle and third in the 2021-2023 edition.

Across the 2023-2025 World Test Championship cycle, two batters had surpassed 1,500 runs. Despite this individual achievement, neither player’s team advanced to the final. Overall, 14 batters crossed 1,000 runs, with five also averaging over 50.
