The year began with two Test matches on January 3, at Sydney and Cape Town. It ended with three Boxing Day Tests, at Melbourne, Centurion, and Bulawayo.
Over this period, Test cricket witnessed one of the most remarkable years, where the Bangladesh and New Zealand won Test series in Pakistan and India; Bangladesh also won a Test match in the Caribbean, as did the West Indies in Australia, England in India, and Sri Lanka in England.
Meanwhile, South Africa played all three women’s Test matches – in three different continents – and lost all three.
