On August 15, MS Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket through an Instagram video which carried a slideshow of pictures representing some of the most important moments of his career.

The video, which begins with his India debut against Bangladesh in 2004, weaves through the various defining moments of his career, also featuring pictures with India stalwarts who played alongside him over the years. It culminates with what turned out to be his final appearance in India colours – against New Zealand in the 2019 World Cup semi-final.

In a career spanning almost 15 years – from December 2004 to July 2019 – the wicketkeeper-batsman made 538 appearances for India across formats, leading the side in 332 of them. During his time as the captain, Dhoni led India to victory in the 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 World Cup, 2013 Champions Trophy and to the pinnacle of ICC Test rankings in 2009.
