Biography
Zubayr Hamza is a young batsman who started playing cricket from school age. Idolizing the legend Jacques Kallis, Zubayr has a neat batting stance like him and also loves to bat for long hours. Keeping in mind his ability to remain patient and back his skills, he was handed the captaincy post of Western Province Under-19 team. Unfortunately, the young batsman failed to enter South Africa's U-19 squad for the World Cup but he didn't lose hope.
In December 2014, a determined Zubayr struck his maiden double century in a First-class game and became the fourth-youngest South African (19 years and 113 days) to achieve this feat. After notching up few impressive performances in 2018, Hamza was promoted to Cape Cobras team for the 2018-19 season. A phenomenal domestic season handed Hamza an opportunity in the whites.
Hamza made his Test debut in the third Test against Pakistan in early 2019 and became South Africa's 100th Test player since readmission. He had a rather disappointing debut as his figures of 41 and 0 did not live up to the expectations. After getting ignored by the selectors in the following Test series against Sri Lanka, in August 2019, Hamza was named in South Africa's Test squad for their series against India.
