Biography

Ranadeb Bose made his first-class debut for Bengal way back in the 1998-99 season, but never once experienced the feeling of playing for the Indian national team, despite his performances in domestic cricket.

A right-arm fast-medium bowler from Kolkata, Bose was one of the 30 men who were called up at a conditioning camp held by the then newly appointed Indian coach Greg Chappell in 2005. Unfortunately, for a fast bowler with a flowing action who earned wickets at an economical and consistent rate, due recognition was never given. He was only 26 then, and had disappeared even before he appeared.

However, Bose bounced back strongly, and this time on the basis of some really impressive domestic performances. The 2006-07 season worked wonders for him as he was given a berth in the Indian Test side against England. The speedster from Bengal had collected 57 Ranji wickets in 8 matches at 14.23 that season, and ended up bowling 10,658 deliveries, without a single no-ball. Bose was unfortunate to have missed out on international exposure, but his talent has received a lot of appreciation at the domestic level, where he is still one of the most vital cogs for Bengal. However, he was dropped from Bengal's one-day side in 2011, as the senior selectors preferred the younger lot over the 32-year old bowler.
