Biography
Ever since his debut in 2007 against India, left-arm spinner Paul Harris has been a regular in South Africa’s Test eleven. A late debutant at 29, he replaced the retired Nicky Boje to solve South Africa’s spin woes. 5 wickets on his debut Test was only the beginning as later that year, Harris went on to take his maiden innings five-for against Pakistan at Karachi.
Regarded as a Test specialist, Harris enjoyed a fine debut year in 2008, being named one of South Africa’s Players of the Year. But the lack of competition saw a decline in form the following year in 2009, although a career best 6-wicket haul against visiting Australia helped his team to an innings victory. As competition was soon scouted, none could topple Harris from the side owing to an extended run of experience with a respectable average of nearly 2 wickets per inning. Harris was an integral part of the Titans side in the domestic setup and was also included in the Champions League T20 squad in 2012. The following year, the left-armer announced his retirement at the end of the season, bringing a 14-year career to an end.
