Biography

Matthew Bell is a top order New Zealand batsman with a sound technique. He made his debut in 1998 but failed to maintain a regular place in the team due to inconsistent performances. His best innings came against Pakistan where he scored a ton in the final Test to level the series 1-1.

After that, he went through a phase of successive failures, and was eventually dropped. His prolific run-scoring in the 2007 domestic season saw him earning a recall in the New Zealand team. Bell is known for his calm and collected batting style. He believes in working hard for his runs rather than going after the opposition attack.

His recent run with the Kiwi team has been decent and has temporarily maintained a spot as an opener in the Kiwi team. Bell will be hoping for a longer stint in the Kiwi outfit this time around with some big runs under his belt.
