Biography

A sensational 50-ball century in the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup against England by Kevin O’Brien propelled his name in the Irish cricketing folklore, making it a record fastest hundred in World Cup history. Not only that, but O’Brien’s efforts helped Ireland clinch a shocking three-wicket victory over their neighbours.

A right-handed batsman right-arm medium-fast bowler, O’Brien represented his country at the Under-19 World Cup, and then went on to have a decent ODI debut against England in 2006, even before entering the first-class arena. However, a year later, he played his maiden domestic game against UAE at Abu Dhabi. Touted as a genuine all-rounder, O’Brien had a fruitful experience at the 2007 World Cricket League, notching second highest-runs at an average of 50 plus. His all-round performances continued at the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup, though they weren’t spectacular so to speak. Though, O’Brien continues to be one of the top performers for Ireland cricket.
