For some, cricket has changed their life but for Fawad Ahmed, it is the sole reason that has brought him up after a time, where he was threatened of playing this very sport.
A prodigious leg-spinner who started off playing first-class cricket in Pakistan, Ahmed chose to look for shelter in Australia as an asylum seeker after he was persecuted in his country for playing cricket. He started off with a very low level club in Melbourne, Victoria. His first application for permanent residency was denied before finally getting it in 2012. That attracted the franchise owners in the extravagant Big Bash League and he represented the Melbourne franchise as an exemption was granted to him. He was chosen to play for Australia A tour matches in England in 2013 before finally receiving the Australian citizenship on July 2, 2013, which made him available to play the Ashes and future tours as well.
