Biography

Lahiru Kumara, born on February 13, 1997, in Kandy, Sri Lanka, is a right-arm fast bowler renowned for his raw pace and aggressive bowling style. Emerging from the cricketing circuits of Kandy, Kumara's talent was evident early on, leading to his selection for the Sri Lanka Under-19 team. His performances at the junior level showcased his potential to become a mainstay in the national team's pace attack.

Kumara made his first-class debut for Sri Lanka A against West Indies A on October 4, 2016. His impressive performances in domestic cricket, particularly for Nondescripts Cricket Club, paved the way for his inclusion in the national squad. He made his Test debut against Zimbabwe on October 29, 2016, and his ODI debut followed shortly after, on February 4, 2017, against South Africa. His T20I debut came on October 11, 2017, against Pakistan.

Known for consistently bowling at speeds exceeding 140 km/h, Kumara has been a vital asset in Sri Lanka's bowling lineup, especially in Test matches. His ability to generate bounce and movement has troubled many top-order batsmen. However, his career has been marred by injuries and occasional lapses in discipline, which have intermittently sidelined him from the national team.

In domestic cricket, Kumara has represented various teams, including Kandy, Galle, and Dambulla, showcasing his versatility across formats. His participation in franchise leagues, such as the Lanka Premier League, has further honed his skills and provided him with exposure to diverse playing conditions.

His journey reflects the challenges and triumphs of a fast bowler striving to make a lasting impact on the international stage. As he continues to evolve, Kumara remains a promising figure in Sri Lanka's quest to rebuild a formidable pace attack.
