Biography
Brian Bennett, born on November 10, 2003, is a Zimbabwean all-rounder who bats right-handed and bowls right-arm off-break. He first came to prominence at the 2022 Under-19 World Cup, where he represented Zimbabwe alongside his twin brother. Brian finished as the highest run-scorer for Zimbabwe in the tournament, and his impressive showing paved the way for him to enter the domestic cricket scene.
He made his first-class debut for the Mountaineers during the 2022–23 Logan Cup in December 2022. Shortly after his first-class debut, Bennett made his T20 debut in February 2023, scoring 41 runs off 22 balls. Later in the year, he earned his senior T20I cap against Ireland. After showcasing promise both domestically and in the T20I format, Bennett was called up to the Test squad in July 2024. A few months later, he went on to make his ODI debut.
The Test debut was the start of what would become a whirlwind 18 months for the talented youngster. First came his maiden Test century at home, followed by another hundred on the tour of England, which was Zimbabwe’s first tour there in a long time. Those knocks turned heads and marked Bennett as one of the brightest young batters in the Zimbabwe setup. His rise soon translated into the white-ball formats as well. In 2025, Bennett registered his maiden centuries in both ODIs and T20Is, joining an elite list of players to have scored hundreds in all three formats of international cricket.
He carried that momentum into the T20 World Cup, entering the tournament as the leading run-scorer for the Chevrons in the format over the preceding year. Bennett showcased that consistency at the World Cup with two fifties in the group stage, first against Australia and then against Sri Lanka, as Zimbabwe progressed to the Super 8s unbeaten. Remarkably, Bennett was not dismissed even once during the group stage. Although Zimbabwe were brushed aside in the Super 8s, Bennett's unbeaten 97 against a quality Indian bowling attack stood out, underlining his growing stature on the international stage.
