Biography

Australian medium-fast bowler Andrew McDonald is often praised for his ability to keep a tight line while bowling. He has played for Australia in the Under-19 side and has also represented Victoria since 2002.

McDonald’s strong domestic form gained him a place in the Australian 30-man preliminary squad for the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup, along with the 2007 ICC World Twenty20 Aussie squad and the 7-ODI series in India. His Test debut came in January 2009 against the South Africans in Sydney in the absence of injured Andrew Symonds and Shane Watson. A decent performance there called for his subsequent selection for the tour to South Africa in February-March 2009. He managed to make a valuable contribution with 68 runs in the third Test and an overall 6 wickets in the series. This led to his recall in the side for the 2009 Ashes tour, although he did not play a single game.

‘Ronnie’ was signed by the Delhi Daredevils in 2009 ahead of IPL season two. However, in 2012, the Royal Challengers Bangalore bought him ahead of the fifth IPL edition. Later that year, he was grabbed by Uva Next for the inaugural Sri Lankan Premier League, followed by the Champions League T20.
