Before the gluttony of the 2000s, the Nineties was a decade dominated by bowlers. As Walsh and Ambrose, the two Ws, Murali, and Warne, to name but a few, played out significant parts of their careers, batsmen averaging over 50 were few and far between.

Only four in this list, with a cut-off of 2,500 runs, managed it, while one managed to squeak in while averaging less than 30. Still, plenty of them count as among the greatest to have the game, and went onto dominate in the Noughties.
