The Joe Root Era came to an end with his resignation from the role of Test skipper on Friday, April 15. His tenure ended in dire circumstances, with a stretch of one win in 17 Tests preceding his decision to step down, but also included overseas series wins in South Africa and Sri Lanka and a 4-1 victory over India at home in 2018.
In total, Root called upon the services of 42 players, not including himself, during his reign. One of those appeared exactly 50 times under Root, while four won just a solitary cap.
