The third Test of the 2023 Ashes at Headingley will be the first Ashes Test match without either Anderson or Lyon in the last 17 years.

While Anderson has been rested from the Headingley Test, Lyon will miss out because of an injured calf. It will be the first time he will miss a Test match in the last 101 Tests that Australia have played.

The last time England and Australia played a Test where neither Lyon nor Anderson featured was in 2006/07, at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Australia won that game comprehensively by an innings and 99 runs.
