The long-awaited 10th season of Bangladesh’s top-flight franchise T20 competition, the Bangladesh Premier League, will be played between January 19 and March 1, 2024. The usual venues in Dhaka, Chattogram and Sylhet will host all the matches, with the play-offs starting in Dhaka on February 25.
Defending champions Comilla Victorians didn’t have the best of starts as they went down against Durdanto Dhaka by five wickets in their curtain-raiser game. With four titles, Comilla is the most successful team in BPL history. Litton Das has succeeded Imrul Kayes as their captain this year. Kayes led them to successive titles in 2022 and 2023.
Apart from them, six other franchises – Sylhet Strikers, Fortune Barishal, Chattogram Challengers, Rangpur Riders, Sylhet Strikers, and Khulna Tigers – will compete in the tournament.
16 Pakistan players dominate the overseas contingent across seven teams. The most prominent name is Babar Azam of Rangpur Riders, though the 2024 BPL will also feature Shoaib Malik, Fakhar Zaman, Iftikhar Ahmed, Mohammad Rizwan, Saim Ayub, Fakhar Zaman, Mohammed Amir, Shoaib Malik among others.
However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed that though it had issued NOC to many senior players, Naseem Shah, Ihsanullah and Mohammad Hasnain are yet to get clearance. The trio recovered from their respective injuries recently.
