India defeated Sri Lanka in the first match of the women's ODI tri-series in Colombo on Sunday (April 27) - here is the updated points table for the tri-series involving India, Sri Lanka, and South Africa.
Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and put Sri Lanka into bat after a delayed start that reduced the match to 39-overs-a-side. The hosts lost their stalwart captain Chamari Athapaththu early on for just seven and were never able to stitch long-enough partnerships. Opener Hasini Perera top-scored with 30 off 46, while Sneh Rana was the best bowler for India, taking 3-31 in her eight overs.
Kashvee Gautam (0-28 from 8) and Shree Charani (2-26 from 8) - India's two ODI debutants - did well with the ball. Sri Lanka also had two players making their ODI debuts: Piumi Badalge and Malki Madara. Both made two each with the bat, batting at No.8 and 10 respectively. Madara opened the bowling for the hosts but couldn't create an impact, registering figures of 0-31 from six overs. Badalge bowled three wicketless overs for 11 as well as the Indian top three finished off the 148-run chase in 29.4 overs.
Smriti Mandhana made 43 off 46, while newbie Pratika Rawal continued her incredible start to ODIs with another fifty, an unbeaten 50 off 62 balls, accompanied by Harleen Deol's 48 not out off 71.
