Pratika Rawal

Against South Africa at the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Pratika Rawal set a new world record in women’s ODIs by reaching 500 runs in only seven innings.

India comfortably beat the hosts in the first ODI of the tri-nation tournament in Sri Lanka. Chasing 148 in 39 overs, they got there in 29.4 overs after losing only the wicket of Smriti Mandhana (43). Rawal (50 not out) and Harleen Deol (48 not out) completed the chase.

After the innings, Rawal’s ODI aggregate stood at 494 runs from seven innings with a hundred and four fifties. She had debuted in late 2024 when India left out Shafali Verma. With 40, 76, and 18 against the West Indies, followed by 89, 67, and 154 against Ireland, she became an instant sensation. The unbeaten half century in Sri Lanka pushed her closer to the 500-mark.

Pratika Rawal breaks Charlotte Edwards’ world record

Rawal picked up five runs across the first three overs of the game after Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and opted to bat. When Masabata Klaas began the fourth over with a short-pitched ball, Rawal pulled and picked up a single to reach the 500-run mark.

At this, Rawal was the fastest in the history of the format, taking an innings fewer than Charlotte Edwards to get there. She also took five innings fewer than Mithali Raj, whose 13 innings used to be the previous Indian record.
