Yuzvendra Chahal's 200th IPL wicket
by Wisden Staff 2 minute read

Watch: Yuzvendra Chahal etched his name into IPL folklore when he became the first bowler to take 200 wickets in the tournament’s history during today’s IPL 2024 match between RR and MI in Jaipur.

Mumbai won the toss and elected to bat first. They collapsed early in the powerplay before Mohammad Nabi rescued the innings to an extent. The spinners came on to bowl after the powerplay, with Chahal, sitting on 199 IPL wickets, being given the ball in the eighth over of the innings.

The first two balls of his first over fetched two singles, before he got Nabi out on the third ball to celebrate his 200th IPL wicket. A slow leg spinner that pitched on leg stump, turned and got the leading edge of Nabi’s bat only to lob back to Chahal, who completed the catch with ease and sunk to the ground.

This was Chahal’s 13th wicket this season. The rest of his first over brought four more runs.

Most wickets in IPL history

With the wicket of Nabi, Chahal became the first bowler to get to 200 IPL wickets. 139 of those have come for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, while 61 have come for Rajasthan Royals.

Here are the top five wicket-takers in IPL history as of now:

  1. Yuzvendra Chahal – 200*
  2. Dwayne Bravo – 183
  3. Piyush Chawla – 181
  4. Bhuvnshwar Kumar – 174
  5. Amit Mishra – 173
