Watch: Virat Kohli teases Eden Gardens crowd, marks fake run-up for first over of match

Kohli marks fake run-up

Watch: Virat Kohli teased the Eden Gardens crowd at the start of today’s IPL 2024 match between KKR and RCB by marking his bowling run-up and handing over his cap to the umpire.

KKR hosted RCB in the reverse-fixture after having trumped them at their home ground in Bengaluru earlier in the tournament. The visitors won the toss and elected to field.

Just as the RCB players made their way out on the field and spread to take their positions, Kohli took off his orange cap and handed it to the umpire at the non-striker’s end, before starting to mark his bowling run-up.

That got the crowd excited as they thought Kohli was about to bowl the first over of the match. However, much to their disappointment, Kohli walked back and took his cap back from the umpire before heading over to mid-off. Mohammed Siraj eventually took the new ball, as was originally expected.

KKR got off to a flying start courtesy of Phil Salt, who made 48 off 14 balls inside the powerplay as the home team raced off to 75-3 in six overs.
