Watch: MS Dhoni ran out Anuj Rawat with a direct underarm throw in the IPL 2024 series opener between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Chennai today (March 22).
In the last ball of the innings, Tushar Deshpande bowled a wide yorker. Dinesh Karthik, batting then on 38 off 26 balls, shuffled across but missed it and tried to snatch a single in the next moment. Dhoni safely pouched the ball behind the stumps and directed a throw with his gloves on. The ball smashed the stumps in the very next moment. Rawat (48 off 25) ran in hard from the non-striker’s end and dived in desperation but fell well short of his crease.
Ian Bishop, on-air, was heard praising the 42-year-old wicketkeeper-batter for his fitness and sharp reflex, saying “he (Dhoni) has still got it”.
The run out meant RCB finished at 173-6. Earlier, Mustafizur Rahman proved to be the wrecker-in-chief for CSK reducing them to 78-5 with four wickets before Rawat and Karthik rescued RCB’s innings with a 95-run stand.
