Prasidh Krtishna’s injury is a massive blow for Rajasthan, but they have viable backups. For Lucknow Super Giants, the return of their skipper, KL Rahul, after missing the last three Tests against England owing to a quadricep injury will give them a huge boost.

In a last-minute change for Mumbai, South African U19 World Cup star Kwena Maphaka has replaced Sri Lanka pacer Dilshan Madushanka, who’s ruled out with a hamstring injury. Mumbai have also roped in England seamer Luke Wood as Jason Behrendorff’s replacement. Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav will miss the first fixture after reportedly failing to get a clearance from the NCA.

Gujarat Titans will take the field under new skipper Shubman Gill for the first time. The injured Mohammed Shami has been replaced by Sandeep Warrier, while Jharkhand’s hard-hitting wicketkeeper-batter Robin Minz is unavailable after failing to recover from a minor bike accident. Karnataka’s BR Sharath has replaced him. GT will also be without Matthew Wade for their first two matches. He will stay in Australia to play for Tasmania in the Sheffield Shield final.

LSG’s strength lies in their all-rounders. Given their depth in every department and Rajasthan’s dearth of quality all-rounders, Lucknow are favourites to prevail in their opening match.

With Pandya gone, the lack of firepower in the middle order is GT’s Achilles heel. Their chances against MI will depend heavily on how they play against Jasprit Bumrah and the slingy Nuwan Thushara at the death. Mumbai will enter the game with their nose slightly ahead, but underestimate Gujarat at your peril considering their record since debut in 2022.
