KKR had a sensational day with the bat, scoring 135 runs in their first 10 overs and were well en route to breaking Sunrisers Hyderabad’s record total of 277, the highest team score by an IPL team. Kolkata made 129 in their next nine overs, reaching 264-5 in the 19th, needing 14 more to overhaul SRH’s tally.

Their aspirations took a hit as Ishant dismissed Russell with an excellent 144kph yorker on the first ball of the 20th over. The delivery came into the West Indian, who was unable to bring down his bat in time. The ball snuck through and rattled the bottom of the stumps even as Russell fell to the ground face-down, unable to balance himself.

Russell quickly got up, brushed himself and walked back but not before turning around to clap Ishant’s skills. KKR eventually made 272-7, their highest IPL score and the second-highest in the competition.

Ishant last played for India in 2021 and has not played a T20I since 2013.
